Who exactly is Saratoga Stars Youth Travel Baseball?

Saratoga Stars Youth Travel Baseball is an organization established & dedicated to offer Saratoga Springs Little League baseball players an opportunity to develop and improve their baseball abilities, teamwork & sportsmanship. The travel baseball program independently supplements the Saratoga Springs LL rec program. See the Program page for more detail.

What leagues(s) do you play in?

Saratoga Stars Travel Baseball participates in the Empire State Baseball League. ESBL's primary season is in the spring/summer, but also provides a fall season. Saratoga Stars travel teams will be fielded for both the spring and fall seasons.

Do I need to play in Saratoga Springs Little League too?

Yes, Spring season participation is required. The Saratoga Stars participate in the Empire State Baseball League, which was created to supplement town-based recreational programs such as Saratoga Springs LL with travel play. In order to participate in ESBL, players must also play in their local recreation program. Saratoga Stars is the designated travel program for Saratoga Springs Little League. In the Fall, players are not required participate in the Fall recreation season, but must have played in the past Spring season or plan to play in the coming Spring season.

How do I join a team?

All players must tryout and be selected to join a team. Tryouts are held in October for the Spring season and in August for the Fall season.

Will games and practices conflict with SSLL?

Games are on Sundays and the occasional Saturday night, so there will not be any game conflicts. Practices will be scheduled 1 per week when SSLL is active with the goal of avoiding recreation practice conflicts.

What is age eligibility for coming seasons (Fall 2023 and Spring 2024)?

9U is all players born after August 31, 2014, 10U is all players born after August 31, 2013, 11U is all players born after August 31, 2012 and 12U is all players born after August 31, 2011.

How far will we travel?

The Empire State Baseball League generally plays its games within the capital region and drive time is nearly always under an hour. In addition to league games, teams may participate in tournament(s) that requires travel in excess of one hour.

How much does it cost?

The registration fee for Saratoga Stars Travel Baseball is approximately $200 per player in the Spring and $125 per player in the Fall. The cost will vary depending on the number of games scheduled and the number of rostered players. This covers ESBL league fees, insurance, field use, umpire fees, and baseballs. Uniforms are an additional cost for new players, typically less than $100. Any tournaments and indoor training is extra, but typically fundraising efforts are used to cover the former.

Where does the name "Stars" come from?

Our team name celebrates the rich baseball heritage of this area & dates back to one of the original professional baseball teams in Saratoga Springs, NY in the 1800's.
